Outreach Office Hours Set for April 4


To help ensure access to state government information and services, I will hold outreach office hours at the following locations on Thursday, April 4:

 • Emporium Borough Office – 9-10 a.m.
 • Port Allegany Borough Office – 11 a.m. to noon
 • McKean County Courthouse, commissioner’s conference room – 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Trout Season Opens April 13; Multi-Year Fishing Licenses Now Available

 
Local anglers looking forward to the opening of trout season in just a couple weeks may want to consider a new option for their fishing license this year. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission now offers multi-year licenses. A three-year fishing license, valid through 2015, costs $64.70 for a resident and $31.70 for a senior resident. The five-year license, valid through 2017, costs $106.70 for a resident and $51.70 for a senior resident. For full pricing information, or to purchase a license, click here.

Hunter-Trapper Education Courses Available

The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s is offering several hunter-trapper education courses in the area over the next few weeks. All first-time hunters and trappers, regardless of age, are required to successfully complete the program before they can purchase a license. The course covers topics such as responsible hunting behavior, knowing your firearm equipment, basic and advanced hunting techniques, and basic shooting and safe hunting skills.

Upcoming sessions include:

 • Kane Fish and Game Sportsman’s Club (two-day course): April 4 and 11, 6-9 p.m. 
 • Eldred Conservation Club (two-day course): April 4, 6-9 p.m., and April 6, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
 • East Fork Sportsman Club, Wharton (one-day course): April 6, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  
 • Woodland Elementary School, Emporium (one-day course): April 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  
 • Canoe Place Fish and Game Club, Port Allegany (two-day course: April 9 and 10, 5:30-9 p.m. 
 • West Branch United Methodist Church, Bradford (two-day course): April 10 and 11, 6-9:30 p.m.

LIHEAP Program Extended

 
Pennsylvanians who need assistance in paying home heating bills have through April 26 to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Cash grants are based on household income, family size, type of heating fuel and location. In addition to proof of income and household size, applicants must provide a recent bill or a statement from their utility company or fuel supplier verifying customer status and the type of fuel used.
