A Coudersport man was arraigned on Aggravated Assault (F1) and other charges on Wednesday and remanded to the Potter County Jail in lieu of $50,000. straight cash bail, accused by Coudersport Police of physically abusing a 19 month old child.
Vincent Joseph Floyd, 33, of Coudersport, PA, was arrested by Sgt. James R. Collins of the Coudersport Police Department and arraigned before District Judge Annette L. Easton on the following charges:
Sgt. Collins, in an affidavit of probable cause filed in the District Court, documented an investigation that also involved State Police and Children & Youth, that indicated the child had suffered multiple incidents of physical injuries after Floyd moved into the household a little over a year ago.
The charges placed are for an incident that occurred on January 25, 2013, after the child was taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital and found to have a broken left femur. Subsequent x-rays disclosed additionally, a healing broken tibia, a broken foot, and a broken hip, incurred since April 4, 2012. Medical records showed multiple cases of bruising, and missing patches of hair from her head according to the court record.
A doctor at Geisinger Hospital, who evaluated the child as part of a Child Abuse Investigation and the child's family doctor agree "There is absolutely no doubt" that the 19 month old victim has been abused on multiple occasions, according to the filing by Sgt. Collins.
When the January incident occurred, Floyd told investigators that the child had fallen while playing a game breaking her left femur. In a subsequent interview on March 6, 2013, Floyd admitted he lied in his previous statements and stated that he was running and tried to jump over the child and fell on her breaking her left femur. He notified the child's mother but did not seek medical attention for the child for 5 or 6 hours after the injury was sustained.
Floyd is tentatively scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing before Judge Easton on April 8, 2013.
