A nine year old boy was injured last Thursday at 3:20 AM when the 2007 Ford Freestyle he was a passenger in slid off icy Route 219 in Lafayette Township and rolled over.
He was in a vehicle driven by Rhonda S. Pilarski, 44, of Berlin, MD. The driver and another passenger, a 13 year old male were not hurt. The nine year old was transported by Kane Ambulance to Kane Community Hospital for treatment of what police described as moderate injuries. All of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
Trooper Frederick Burns, who investigated, said the crash occurred as the vehicle was traveling north on Rt. 219 near Westline when Pilarski failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway due to icy, snow covered roadway conditions. She lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the west berm, striking an embankment with it's front end. The vehicle continued to slide north on the berm and then rolled over.
Pilarski was cited for Roadways Laned For Traffic. Assisting at the scene were Lafayette Township Fire Dept. and Kane EMS. Buzzard's Towing removed the vehicle.
