Robert Dean Swarthout, 84, of Houston, DE, Bolivar native, passed away Tues., Mar. 19, 2013 at home.
Mr. Swarthout was born Oct. 5, 1928 in Olean, N.Y. to the late Irving Swarthout and Eva Peudleton Swarthout.
He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the service he went to work for the State of New York Highway and Streets Department as a truck driver retiring after 29 years.
Mr. Swarthout moved from Bolivar, N.Y. to Lindenwold, N.J. until 1991, and went to work at a carwash just for something to do in Turnersville N.J. He was a member of the VFW in N.Y. and enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vernie Davis Swarthout in 1997. He is survived by his sons, Robert D. Cuthbert, Jr. and his wife Melissa of Oklahoma City, Okla., Timmy Swarthout of N.Y., William Waydelis and his wife Melissa of Middletown, Del., Vince Waydelis and his wife Tabitha of Lincoln, Del.; daughters, Tammy Swarthout of N.Y., Donna Durham and her husband Clarence of Houston, Del.; sisters, Mary Swarthout and Maxine Swarthout both of Bolivar, N.Y.; grandchildren, Billy, Toby, Erin, Abby, Jason, Becky, Kirstie, Nathan, Bridgett, Cheyanne, Wilson, Ashley, Shannon, Scott, Kim, Nadia, Ray, Heath, Tyrell, AJ, JR and Barbara; great grandchildren, Liam, Rilee, Kylie, Trevor, Marianna,Natalie, Branden, Taylor, Mia, Jessa and Alexis.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Mar. 25, 2013. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Mon., Mar. 25, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (rt10), Dover. Interment will be in the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cheswold.
