Carmen Joseph (Peanuts) DeStevens, 82, of Gaines, PA, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at his home.
Born March 31, 1931 in Hazelhurst, PA, he was a son of the late John and Vincenza (Conti) DeStevens.
Peanuts was a 1950 Graduate of the Coudersport High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. In Galeton, on June 22, 1963, he married the former Frances Pansero. He started working in 1963 as a mechanic for the Galeton Production Co. and retired from Truck Lite in 1998.
Peanuts was a member of St. Bibiana’s Catholic Church, Galeton, a Lifetime member of the Coudersport American Legion, and a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His favorite pastime was watching the New York Yankees.
Surviving in addition to his wife are, one son, John M. DeStevens, Gaines, PA; one daughter, Nancy M. DeStevens, Gaines, PA; one brother, Merritt (Maggie) DeStevens, Bradford, PA; one sister, Teresa Delgrosso, Galeton, PA; one grandson, Deven Smithmyer, Gaines, PA; mother-in-law, Angela Pansero, Gaines, PA; sisters-in-law, Betty and Barbara DeStevens, Toni (Bill) Haner, Gaines, PA, Mary (Clint) Campbell, Galeton, PA, and Virginia Pansero, Horseheads, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Peanuts was predeceased by four brothers, Seymour “Shadow”, John, Sylvester “Babe”, and Eugene “Euge”; and a sister, Angeline.
Friends may call at the Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Galeton, on Wednesday, April, 3 2013, from 6:00 to 9:00pm and at St. Bibiana’s Catholic Church, Galeton, on Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 10:00 to 11:00am. Following at 11:00 am, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church with the Rev. Joseph Dougherty as Celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded by the Potter County Honor Guard. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
