Red light enforcement funding distributed for safety improvements
All District 3

PennDOT today announced that $63,774 in Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding will be distributed to one municipality located in its Engineering District 3 area. Statewide, approximately $4.7 million in grants are being distributed to 43 municipalities and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission.

Under state law, fines from infractions at 21 intersections in Philadelphia supply the grant funding.

The law specifies that projects improving safety, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion can be considered for funding. Municipalities submitted more than 268 applications, totaling approximately $25.4 million.

Projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such as project benefits and effectiveness, cost, local and regional impact, and cost-sharing.

The one project awarded in District 3 is:

• $63,774 to the Town of Bloomsburg in Columbia County for installation of 76 pedestrian countdowns at various intersections, two school zone signs and other safety improvements.
