Info Post

I wanted to write to thank everyone who helped Charlie Bowser to raise funds for his autism service dog, at the bake sale held on Friday at the Ulysses bank. Here is a picture of Charlie with Harmony, who is now in training with her team (Mom, Dad and Charlie) to learn how to help him when out in public.

We have chosen triad handling, which means that Charlie will never be left alone with Harmony, but a parent will also be on a secondary leash handle. We feel this will be the safest for Harmony and Charlie.

At home, Harmony  is already helping by being empathetic toward Charlie. Monday he had a meltdown, Harmony got up and came right over to him and stood beside him, leaning on his thigh. I was very surprised, most dogs leave when trouble starts. We sat on the couch and she put her head on his knee. As he petted her and ran his fingers through her coat, he was able to stop crying and calm down enough for me to find out what was wrong with him.

Training Harmony and Charlie will take some time, but we have good resources here to start the process rolling. Thanks to the generosity to those who attended the bake sale, we have set up a fund for Harmony's autism service training.

Thank you,
Janet Bowser
